| HOVERCRAFT 16 |
The plans show styrofoam and plywood construction for the hull. This eliminates the need for drain plugs and bilge pumps and makes this a very safe craft, especially for winter operation over water. The design was based on many winter rescue operations. The wide, low hull makes a good platform for rescues. The wide spacious cockpit can be enclosed and heated. A single engine(plans show an 1800 Subaru engine) provides both lift and thrust by driving a quiet 5 ft. diameter thrust fan and a belt driven lift fan. A deployable drag system made from skirt material gives excellent low speed maneuverability and speed control for operation on ice.
NOTE: plans include hull panel dimensions which can easily be transferred to the plywood. Full-size patterns are not available nor required to build this model.
